Ronnie Lopes
One of his teachers gave him a trio of white leghorn bantams as a graduation gift. He was the president of the Bermuda Poultry Fanciers Society, and introduced him to showing in poultry shows. After this he started showing exhibition poultry from 1976 to present.

During this same time he joined a show band in Bermuda "The Happening BDA", which performed 6 nights a week and traveled to the Caribbean and USA during the off season. This band would be the opening act for groups such as The Drifters, The Four Tops, The Platters, Herman's Hermits, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, Lou Rauls, BB King, Frank Sinatra, Jr., The 5th Dimension, Phillis Dillar, and more. Later he joined another band "Paradise" and started recording jingles for television and radio. This led him to playing drums and doing voice overs and singing. He has performed in the USA, Canada, Acapulco, Mexico, and recently in Cuba with the Havana Jass Festival, December 2013.

Back in 1993-1994 while performing in Charlotte, North Carolina, he contacted Mr. John Smith and spent the day looking at chickens with him. At the same time he met Johnnie Flowers, Warren Beal, Terry Jenkins, and other great Old English fanciers.

In recent years he has performed in Bermuda opening acts for Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Michael MacDonald, Chris Botti, Roberta Flack, Seal, Isaac Hayes, and Patti Austin, plus many others. Highlights of his career have been performing on the World Cruise Ship, singing in the largest church in Edmonton, Alberta where the Pope had visited. He has earned three local awards: 2012 Jazz Artist Award, Best of Bermuda, 2010 Musician and VIP 2011 Industry Award for Best Entertainer. At the time of the VIP Awards, in April of 2011, Don Roscoe was in Bermuda for the annual Bermuda Poultry Show and went along for the awards rehearsal.

In 2009 Ronnie travelled to Plymouth, MA to perform on the Jerry Lewis Telethon with a group from Bermuda called the Bermuda Strollers, along with a vocalist from American Idol.

In 2010 a song was written about Bermuda, by a Bermudian, who contacted him to sing one of the verses in the music video. The song is played every day on the radio on the island. The video is used to promote the island overseas.

In 2011 Tony Brannon along with the consent of Yoko Ono did a remix of the John Lennon song "All You Need Is Love" and was recorded in Bermuda. Ronnie was a vocalist on the song and performed on the video with many other local entertainers. With the success of the video and CD came a live performance in June and a recorded message from Yoko with many thanks to Bermuda in honoring John. Ronnie started playing every Thursday night in Dockyard, for the cruise ships, performing all John Lennon songs written in Bermuda. You can see the video remix on You Tube. All You Need Is Love by the Love Singers for John Lennon.

At the present time Ronnie is still performing around the island in a variety of groups, singing and playing drums. In May 2013 he was approached by members of the Bermuda Poultry Club, and others, to restart the club again. He was elected president and the Bermuda Poultry Society was back in swing again after a 15 year absent. It was discovered that the year 2014 was the big 100th year anniversary poultry show with Bart Pals judging. The Governor of Bermuda and his wife opened the show and walked around enjoying the poultry. There is a picture and story about the show in the UK Practical Poultry Magazine. Ronnie is a life member of the ABA and plans to visit more poultry shows in the coming years.
